For the range, why not look at kits from HQ, T-man, Hillside, or another aftermarket source. It would be a better choice than going back to oe. Cams would be a lot better.

with anything having to do with the powertrain, I'm all OEM on all of my vehicles. May be the wrong answer, but I've always thought nobody knows their products like the OEM.

I agree to a point. if it is still under warranty yes if not then there are better kit's out there for the same or even less money.

How would it be a "better" choice? Better warranty, better parts or what. I'm very satisfied with my SE Stage II kit with SE 255 cams as installed by the dealer. Mine cost about $1300 with the discounts on parts and labor they were giving last winter. And I still have the factory warranty.

What would be better about the cams, last longer, better performance for my riding style?

Default 103 build

SInce you brought up the warranty issue let me throw this in the mix. I was going to do the 103 kit stage II until my dealer told me even if they install it other than the warranty that they would give you on the build (90 days) my engine warranty would be null and void essentially. If you look in the SE catalogue the 103 kits along with several other items have the crossed flag emblems. This will mean if you do it to kiss your warranty good by. I really would like some one to clarify this for me. If you are buying their stuff in a pre determined kit that they are installing how can they void your warranty?????? Besides that the SERT has the same emblems.

I don't know what you're talking about. I just looked at their online catalog and there are no such warnings on the Street legal 103" Stage II kit with the 255 cams. In fact I don't see any such warnings on any of the EFI kits. There's a Stop Light warning, a Hand warning and a California map warning, but no crossed flags. And none of them say that they cancel any warranty.

In fact, I just went through the entire Screamin' Eagle section of my 2009 printed catalog and saw no crossed flags. I think you need to verify your sources.

Found this in the note section on the HD website:
NOTE: .... When installed by an authorized Harley-Davidson® Dealer, these kits do not impact the vehicle's limited warranty.

I am also assembling the necessary parts for a 103 Stage II kit. I have new jugs, pistons, rings and 255 cams. I have specifically asked three dealers about the warranty issue if they install these parts. They all agree that the OEM and extended warranties stay intact if they install the parts. The best price I was quoted for the complete install, including gaskets, oil change, etc., was $700 out the door. The price sounds reasonable to me.

You guys are going to dig the 103 with 255 cams, for the money it really rocks! Got mine done by dealer for 1690 plus adjustable push-rods. Already had pro-tuner and exhaust.

Just curious, any problems with hard starting when hot like the starter is going to hemorrhage?
