Default 08 or 09 Ultra?

At a 4 to 5 k difference, would you spend the extra $ to get the 09 Ultra over the 08 Ultra considering the differences between the 2 bikes??

If the 08 is still new sitting in a dealer showroom, get it and save the money. If the 08 is used, guess it depends on how many miles and condition versus a new 09.

I have nothing but good things to say about my 08 Ultra. I bought it right before the new model years came out, but if I had the chance to do it again.... I might have waited for the 09. Still, I love my ride, and 4-5k would buy a boat load of accessories....

New Ultra is considerably heavier, if that is a concern, but also have a higher capacity for carrying gear, and wobble should be gone due to the new frames and engine mounts.

Infamous wobble problems on previous models can be fixed for <$200, using a 3rd link from Progressive, or any of the other venders selling kits at higher prices.

If they're both new, probably would go with the 08 for that much difference. If the 08 is used, that would make the decision a lot tougher. I passed on a used 08 (with 400 miles) equipped nearly the same as the 09 I eventually bought. The difference in price was $4K. I'm glad I bought the 09, but $4K buys a lot of goodies.

My 08 has been a fantastic ride. I bought it at the end of the year and could have orderd the 09. But I made the choice to buy the 08. No regrets at all. I think the 09 is a fantastic bike as well. I am sure you will make the best choice for you. I don't think you can go wrong with 08 or 09.

Had the same decision with both 08 and 09 being on the
showroom floor....I chose the 08 with no regrets....I used the extra
$$$$ for add ons such as D&D, 103HD, Bagger Brace and the
list goes on. Your call but I still feel that I made the
right chose. Good luck in your's and Ride Safe!!!

Now I am not going to tell you that I could have probably made a better deal on the 08 but didn't even try. I new I wanted the 09 with the new frame and such.

When I bought my 09 Ultra the dealer had a 08 exact same equipment and color that I was considering to save some money. I had a 07 SG before and I was real curious if the 09 changes were fact or fiction so I decided to go for it. I have never ridden a 08 but I can tell you the difference in ride and handling from the 07 is hands down better on my 09. I'm not going to drag this out comparing the 2 but I can say I have 3500 miles on the 09 and I'm very happy I bought it. In the 07's defense we logged over 14000 miles on it in 8 months and smiled all the way.
