Default Modding the HK radio

Has anybody here figured out a way to mod the HK radio to a different color display? I'm doing the Dakota Digital gauges, and have a color matched blue pearl inner fairing that is getting installed...but I think the orangish/red display on the radio isnt going to look so hot with the blue. I'd like to find out some options to keep the stock radio, and get the display blue.

Anybody done a LED bulb change? Or, much simpler, figure out a way to "film" the front display to get it to look blue?

Looking for options without having to buy an aftermarket stereo. Rather keep all the functionality wity my Ultra intact (intercom, CB, etc).

Thoughts?

I saw a post on another forum where someone said they did it, had to solder something like 24 tiny led's into their radio...

edit: I don't think I imagined it, but went back and looked, and could not find it.

I thought I saw a posting like that a while back, but couldn't fit it either. Not sure I want to crack the radio open and try to solder 24 little LEDs on. There's got to be a solution, I'll have to turn on the Google-foo and see what I can find.

Hi there

For a competent service shop (electronic shop) this is pretty easy.

Assuming you have an HK radio..... With the radio out of the bike, you will see a rubber gasket that goes around the radio where it would meet the fairing--pull this off noting its got alight glue to hold it on. Around the faceplate of the radio you will now see these tabs--with a blade screw driver start one at a time working them while gently "pulling" on the face of the radio and you will find the entire face plate will unplug from the body of the radio in one piece.

If you bring the faceplate to a shop--they should be able to do this in any color--the leds are readily available--and this job should be $150-200

Dont know if this helps....PEZ

These guys change LEDs on gauges maybe they can do radios too. It is not something I would try myself.
