things dont change much, the old tried and true is still best, solder and heat shrink tubing,

Which is exactly what I was referring to; the newest, latest, greatest, whatever... Most folks know what I meant. Is your point because I put the space between the the new and the fangled? Geez, relax a little, this is a forum. Often times you'll find that there are folks that don't have much to contribute by way of real knowledge, so they just lurk around and nitpick others comments or contributions. There's a name for em, would you like me to define that to you? Or can you figure that one out on your own?

+10 on the solder and heat shrink. Anything else invites problems later down the road.

I remove the plastic barrel from a standard butt splice. Insert the wires completely though it and crimp then solder and cover with adhesive lined heat shrink.
The adhesive lined heat shrink is much better.
