Default 2009 Transmission whine?

Ive got 650 miles on my 3 week old bike and when Im riding it starts to have a whine in 4th gear and then louder in 5th and then disappears in 6th gear...1,2,3 has no whine either...

Is this normal? It sounds like my Dads Goldwing with a driveshaft....

My 07 Street bob with the 6 gears....I remember a small whine for a little while but it went away....

Welcome to the world of 08/09 6 speed transmissions! Like he said "gets better with age"!!
My '08 RG whines in 5th, but not 4th.
Not to start another oil thread, but using a good synthetic gear oil reduces the noise some - definitely makes the shifting much smoother, I use Redline "Shockproof" gear oil, others use Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc. Do a search, there's 100's of oil threads on this forum.
Ride safe.

We will sell no whine before its time. The first and fifth gears are straight cut so they makes different noise than the helical cut other gears.

Actually, I was surprised to find the loudest whine on my bike is first gear after it is warmed up. Fifth gear may have a whime, but it is hard to hear on a SG with a stock windshield. I just put on a 9 inch fastair and may be able to hear it now. I also have a pretty looud whine from my primary once my engine warms up> Had the dealer look at it and he said its normal. I will have them look at it at the 1000 check.

That was Orson Welles who said that above quote, btw. The service dept will put in heavy gear oil or synthetic if you prefer. The whine is normal although it may be enhanced by some of the thinner synthetics.

Yep, Redline Heavy Shockproof will reduce the sound by, my guess, 62.3% Hope that helps. Ride safe.

just an opinion, most whining is caused by lugging the engine.
