Here in Tennessee the weather has been wonderful from Last Friday untill Today. And everyday I have heard either by another biker or on news that
there has been an accident involving a bike. Last night I was out riding it was awesome weather and I stopped at the gas station and an old man walked up to me and said "Son, I don't know you, but I see your wedding band and you probably have a family, You should sell that thing and stick to four wheels." He said his nephew got killed Saturday night by a car turning left in front of him. I told him I was sorry for his loss, and that in 1996 my mom and dad got run over on there Electra Glide and riding has always been in my blood. Then he said "When your family doesn't have you anymore, what was it worth?" I didn't have a reply. I said after my mom and dad got hit, by the way they lived, but my mom suffered severe brain damage, I would never ride again, but I always seem to get back on. I have my life insurance and short and long term disability to take care of my family, but sometimes it really hits home. All this is to say, be safe, and be thankful for what we have. Even though the economy is in the dumps, and work hours are cut, I still got to ride my Harley to work today.

First off my condolences to the older gentleman with losing his nephew and to you for your loses as well.

But live and let live, he didn't have to bring you down with one of the worst way to do it, a guilt trip.

Condolences also to you and yours and the old guy! People die everyday whether their walkina cross the street or jumpin out of airplanes. There seem to be more and more bikes on the roads and you are going to hear about more accidents involving them. He may have lost his nephew and we don't know the circumstances involved in that fatality.
I have had people say things like that to me also but it seems to make me more aware of whats goin on around me on the roads but i don't dwell on it becuase if I did I probably wouldn't leave the end of my driveway! I have seen fatalities involving riders and it can get to you real quick but I have seen them in cars also.
I always tell tell younger guys to be adefensive rider and try not to let stupidity kill you!

I am sorry and saddened for all losses regardless of being in a cage or on a bike.
I have on several occasions had people that when talkng or looking at my bike or any other bike and start their part of the conversation with a story of somebody they knew was killed while on a their bike.
I dont admire a convertible Corvette and the first thing out of my mouth to the owner is... I knew a guy that was killed in one of these...etc.

We as riders are aware of the dangers and risks involved in our passion and choose to live riding.

I dont need or appreciate somebody telling me about a recent motorcycle death two minutes before riding out.
I dont mean to sound like a di(k but come on..

Do you remind the guy in front of you in line at Kentucky Fried Chicken just before ordering that Salmonella killed thousands last year, 5 this week and 1 was related or family?

Sorry for the rant. And I do pray for the the souls of riders passed and for good health to the riders here along and wish a God Speed recovery to injured riders and their love for hurt or lost ones.
Ride safe and live life.

When your time is up,----- it's up. You can run, but you can not hide!

At least in my area, so far, then again just a short time no major m/c accidents to speak of. The big one here is hit and runs with pedistrians. Another 1 that hit home was a 6yo little girl riding a bike getting hit by a car.

Geez, yesterday a Tulsa woman was killed walking across the street...run over by a car...guess we should all stop walking too.

Being careful in anything is smarter than not being careful...right?

Life is full of risks, you could walk down the street someone with this swine flu sneezes on you and you end up dying. Riding a bike has dangers and we all have responsibilities to ourselves and the people who love and depend upon us,but if you constantly ride in fear of an accident there would be no fun in riding. I am aware of danger whenever I ride (e.g. at junctions, oncoming overtaking cages etc) but I feel a sense of control on my bike because I have worked hard at being a safer better rider than when I started out. So I don't ride in fear I ride aware and still keep the smile on my face. Sure when I pass a crossroads with cages on either side I feel I am in the lap of the Gods but generally I feel I have a good call on keeping myself as safe as possible. Still it does no harm to remind everyone at the start of the riding season that there are stupid people driving a ton of metal out there.

Time and unforseen occurence befall us all. You can go stand on the railroad tracks and get run over or not. You can affect your time on this planet by the actions you personally take or don't take. I don't believe the saying "When it's your time to go there's nothing you can do about it." We have free will and the choices we make can affect our lives for good or bad. Riding is and always will be a part of my life but I don't do stupid things or take chances that are unreasonable while riding. Ride safe and enjoy it.
