RG Newbie - Windsheild????
I switched out the winsheild on my new RG and noticed that the screws never really get tight but the winsheild seems solid. Is that the way it works??

Not sure about the Roadglide, but I actually broke loose the threaded grommet the screw goes into from the fairing itself on one on the screws.

I was replacing at least 3 of the well nuts everytime I changed shields,(I use a short black in town & th larger dark tint for longer trips) so I bought the fatter ones at home depot and went with stainless steel 1/4-20 bolts and now I don't have to tighten so hard or change'em out everytime I pull the shield.
I replaced my stock winshiled with a clearview, and had a lot of trouble getting the mounts in right.
The problem is that the holes on the fairing aren't round, they're sort of elongaged. The center hole is ok, I'd mount that one first and it would grab. Then moving outward I'd start the next two and snug them, then moving to the very outside screws, once I snugged them up the second ones would pop out of the holes, because the holes weren't round. I spend an entire day driving around the city trying to find some bigger well nuts, with no luck, the only ones I managed to find were too big even for the bigger holes. I was tempted to drill them out, but didn't. I should mention that in my travels I stopped at the harley dealership and asked them if they sold bigger well nuts, as it turned out, a mechanic was at the parts desk flirting with the parts girl when I got there, so he came out to the parking lot to see what the problem was. He ended up going back into the shop for his screw gun and some new well nuts, and he tried installing it. It didn't work for him either, the second one popped out.
Well, back home, I made another attempt, this time I started with screws 2 and 4. tightened them up, then moved to 3, then 1 and 5. This time they all grabbed. hurray! I'll never take that p.o.s. off again.

I have had my shield of several times (3-4) and am still using the original well nuts. I think the trick is to not over tighten them, I just snug them up and that is it. If you try to tighten them too much, all you do is pull the brass threaded **** through the rubber sleeve. Once the nut expands enough to not pull through, it will not get any tighter.
On installing the shield, I start with the out two screws and just snug them up and work my way to the center adjusting the shield as needed. Then go back and re-snug all of the screws. At least this method has worked well for myself, I am sure some of the professionals have an even better method.
As for the shields that come flat and must be "shaped", I can see those as being a serious problem installing.
