Question metal in primary oil when changing oil

I've done a search and did not find the answer that I was looking for. My primary chain seems to be making a lot of noise at start ups. Oil is level is good. At 12K I found a lot of metal when changing oil. I Ask stealer about it and he want to charge me to look at it. I put Amsoil in primary at that time. At 22K Before spring riding I changed out the Amsoil I put in the primary at the 12K change and It seemed to be ok, a lite discolor of metel in oil. I replaced the amsoil with 30W Quarker to see how it would do. This week I started getting chatter at starts up from the primary area. Changed oil and it had a lot of metal in it again. Drain plug covered in metal. I used to not do my own maintences, but now I have the time to do so and like doing my own oil changes etc. The question is, is it normal to have metal in primary chain case when changing oil? My girl is still under the factory warranty. But stealer will charge me if they can't find anything.

You are going to get some VERY small shavings on the magnet between changes. That's the nature of the beast when you have metal on metal, even if its lubricated. Is the chain adjusted properly? If so, change the oil and run it like you stole it. Don't be afraid to pull the primary and look inside. It doesn't void your warrenty.
I don't trust a dealer to do anything. I get my manual out, I diagnose it, and if I can't fix it, I take it to my indy.

If your getting that much metal that is not right. I have to wonder why you would run motor oil in the primary, that is the wrong fluid for the clutches and probably not a good fluid for the chain and gears either. I would take it down and look at the clutch discs and look closely at the chain rollers and the teeth they ride in. You say its starting to chatter at take off, that is your clutch, possibly from friction material failure because of the motor oil.

i and almost everyone uses motor oil in their primary. it's what is used in the primary. i use 20-50 royal purple. and the first change when new had the steel whiskers on the drain plug magnet. as usual. then the next change, almost none. everything has to break in in your primary drive. and clutch packs were designed to be run in motor oil.

i'm not a fan of the syn 3, but motor oil is what is specified in your owners manual for your services, for the primary and crankcase. check out the section in the forum on oil and oil related products, you'll find a lot of information there too.

A metallic color in the oil is normal.Slivers and chunks no.
Some motor oils have additives that are not good for the clutch plates.

stay away from syn 3 its junk regular motor oil is not good for the primary it needs
heavier weight a good synthetic helps you need to check your priary chain
tensioner when you have the cover off just stick your finger in there check for
wear it might be time for the hayden m6 auto tensioner-ride safe

Yes, metal fuzz on drain plug is normal.

10,000 miles with Amsoil a little bit of fuzz. Quaker State 30W less than 10,000 miles? I would switch back to Amsoil.

When you say, (at start ups) is that when you start engine or start engaging clutch?
