How would you know?
How would you know or be able to tell if a bike you were looking at had a Stage I download, or even if it had been SERTed (don't see the SERT box and they don't know what I'm talking about)? A friend is looking at a very nice '03 Heritage Softail Classic where the owner has passed and the family has no records or ideas on the history on the bike. Aside from needing a new battery to start, hopefully it shouldn't need too much else with only 21k. I don't want him to buy a "pig in a poke" and he's looking to me for answers (and this is one of his questions I have no answer to).
There is no way to tell what download a motorcycle has in it by looking at it. The only way to tell is to have a dealer hook it up to the Digital Tech and scan it (most dealers will do this for free as it takes all of 2 minutes to do). You can make an assumption on the download if you look at the air cleaner and exhuast setup on the bike, if they have been changed out and the bike is in good condition (taken care of) 8 out of 10 times its been done. You could also pull the plugs and see what they look like, if it hasnt been done the plugs will look really light (from running so lean) if they look good, chances are the download has been done.
