a good habit is to keep a spare fob battery somewhere on the bike also.

Once you do set your own code you should practice using it so when you need it you CAN do it, or at least carry the instructions in your wallet.
You saved me, fob antenna stopped working on a mountain, 31313 are my lottery numbers now

What can happen to the fob antenna ? I found mine laying loose on top of the battery tray. i just slid it back in it's place. I will say my Fob doesn't work until you are right up on the bike and then even takes awhile to see it. This happens with even a new battery in the Fob.

I don't even know where the antenna is located, the bike tipped over at a scenic overlook, parking 2 up on uneven ground, we tipped it in slow motion and picked it right back up. But after that drive to our destination, parked, left destination, then I remembered the red key light turning in while driving home which is why I thought the fob battery died

My dealer told me the same thing, so I IMMEDIATELY CHANGED IT. Since I've read that many dealers (or maybe the factory) set their new motorcycle security systems using the last 4 of the VIN I assumed the "bad guys" knew that too!
