Anything more than 1/2 qt between changes is too much.....it's got to be checked out. Usually a sign of valve guides or the lovely "out-of-round" or "tapered" factory HD cylinders.
FYI ....Most of the modified engines use NOTHING between changes.

Just wait till your bike is out of warranty and take it back to the same dealer. What was "normal" usage under warranty will now require you to pay 3k to "fix the problem".

For those of you who are thinking 8500 miles between changes this guy is nuts. I had the oil tested last change and there were no signs of wear metals in the oil the oil tested outstanding. I am going to do a test at the next oil change and I will post the results.
I too use amsoil and look forward to hearing your results Road Hawg - by the way I change mine every 5,000 miles or sooner.

I have an 09 Ultra, just checked the oil with 4500 miles on it and it hasn't used any oil that I can tell. It may be down some on the stick but I'm not sure where it was at after the 1K service. I do know it is right below (less than a tick) form the full mark when warm.

Of course I rode mine hard from 100-1K miles.

08 FLHX

15K miles and just finished a 1775 mile round trip ride.

ZERO Oil Burn

I have never added any oil since new between oil changes and change the oil and filter every 2500 to 3000 miles.

Good luck resolving you problem that seems very excessive to me.

I have had 4 Harley baggers since '86. None of them ever used more than 1/2 qt. of oil between changes. You may have some kind of a problem.
