Default XM Radio on '06's

Has anyone enabled the XM radio on an 06; especially a RG? I'm told there's something on the back of the radio that needs to be done but I need more specifics and a little help. I want to put in new speakers and let's do it all at once! IF this is posted on another thread, please point me in that direction. Thanks

I thought there was a module you had to buy from HD for about $500?

I'd be interested in learning more about what is required to upgrade the stock HK radio on the '06 Road Glide. Paying the dealership $498 for the upgrade is an obvious ripoff. Adapters are available for all brands of head units that are XM "ready". And these adapters cost $60.

I've read about several forum members experiencing problems with the HK stock unit.

For about $250 you can upgrade to a Sony head unit and XM adapter. Then upgrade the speakers to quality aftermarket speakers for another $200. All that still cheaper than paying a stealership $495 for the XM upgrade.

I have the XM installed on my 2006 FLHTCI. The dealer installed it the 1K service so I am not sure what is involved. I do know that the module is made specifically for the Harmon Kardon stereo, after it as installed, all the XM info and displys are shown on the face of the radio and are controlled by the audio buttons. The antenna is mounted under the fairing. I do lose reception more on the bike than in the car due to the antenna location. Otherwise it works great and you don't have to worry about removing it when you park. Is it overpriced? Of course, it is sold by Harley Davidson.
