Default Stock Muffler modification QUESTION

Hi All,
Glad to be back on the HD site. Finally dumped the p.o.s. honda GL1800! I just picked up a 2006 E glide classic. On my 93 evo E glide, I drilled out the rear disks in the stock muffler and found the exhaust sound was perfect for me.
Has anyone had any experience in drilling out the disks with an EFI? Will the EFI system get upset enough to mess up the running of the bike or cause any long term harm to the motor without changing the mapping?

Welcome 06EGlide! Well, I can tell you that you're gonna love the bike, as for messing with the mufflers, I have not a clue. Sorry. I'm sure others on the forum can answer that one. Why not just go for a pair of slip-ons? I understand that there are mufflers out there that do not require an A/C and download. The HD touring mufflers I believe. Don't know what they sound like though. Congrats on the new scoot. I looooove mine! Ride safe.

You can drill out the mufflers, but be prepared to have a lean running bike. This means more backfiring during decel, and hotter engine temperatures. Since the bike was pretty leaned from the HD factory (emission), drilling out the mufflers will make it run leaner.

Welcome to HD !!!

I just removed my stockers yesterday! While doing so I noticed how easy it would have been to do exactly what you did!!! I had a set of Rinehart BUB Slip-ons just delivered and had to put them on. They are sweeeeeeeet! The nice low rumble at idle that you can feel in the stomach. I had V&H straight shots on my last FXD, they were nowheres as low-sounding as these pipes. Here I go drifting, focus, the pipes I have on now are much larger diameter of opening than stock and I made no mods. It is lean, but without backfires, pops, er nuttin. I will wait until next month to buy/install the Big Sucker and PCIII. Sounds like you're pushing for the low cost method, at least get the air cleaner upgrade and fuel management to complement the DIY pipes. .
