Default Pecking noise at 2100 RPM's 05 EGC

Long story short, last year had to replace the cam assembly and oil pump on my 05 EGC w/ 24,000 miles. Since then I have heard a pecking sound whenever I reach 2100 RPM, doesn't matter what gear I'm in or even in neutral. It starts about 2100 and usually quits as soon as I hit 2300 RPM's. Almost sounds like an manifold leak, but it is not that, it doesn't leave after warming up. I know we all hear the gremlin Harley noises coming from the engine, but this is pretty specific and always there. It doesn't seem to effect the performance, but just annoys the %$#T out of me. For now I'm writing it off as gremlin noises but, curious if anyone else had similar experience at that RPM range or ideas?

Sure you're not lugging the engine?

No, I don't think that's the cause, 2100 rpm's is about 55/60mph in 5th gear. Just strange that it is only between that short span of rpm's. It's fairly noticable when it is pecking. Think of pecking I think lifter, but it doesn't seem to fit the symptom.

I have the exact same issue...its only at 2K RPM and 50 mph...before or after and it goes away. Happens a bit in 4th gear also. I've asked around and even had my mechanic take it out and they couldn't find anything. I don't have any issue with performance when the sound comes up. I don't like it either, but dont' know what to do about it

Mine does the same. From 2100 -2500. It's done it since new, I just figured it was normal.

I got concerned after I had the cam assembly replaced, didn't notice it until then. But, like I said 24K miles, maybe it's just wear. Just bugs the crap out of me. If anybody comes up with a solution let me know. I think I'm going to do an oil sample and send it in to see if I have any gremlin poop in it!

Try doing 55-60 in 4th instead of 5th and see if that makes a difference. Maybe to high a gear is the problem. I don't even hit 5th until 65-70.

Sorry, haven't had a chance to reply gunner, work keeps getting in the way of my Harley time....gotta get my priorities straight. You may be right about ******* the engine, but regardless of the speed or gear, when I hit 2100rpm's there it is, then at 2300 it quits. I'll try running it a little harder next time out. I live in an area where we have mostly two lane state highways with lots of little ole ladies and farm tractors, sometimes hard to get it up to speed. But, on the interstate or road trip I run pretty hard. I'll see if it helps...thanks

my 07 SG does the same thing but mine is around 1800-2300, doesn't matter which gear, or it can even be neutral. Everyone I talk to says its normal, and just turn up the radio and forget about it.

Yeah, same answer I got from a tech. Oh well, like they said turn up the tunes and ride til it quits!
