When turning on the ignition switch I get the normal red light on the gauge. When I start it the light goes off. I have noticed lately that it will come on for a brief second and go off after I start to move the bike in first. I noticed it when I got it back from the dealer when I had them check the cam tensioners (and swapped to synthetic) about a month ago. When I got it back I noticed the next day that the idle was a lot lower than I remembered, almost like it was bearly staying running. The idle is not ruff. When I start off the light comes on for a second and then goes off. It does not come on any other time while riding. Its a '99 injected Ultra. Only has 16000 miles. Is the light coming back on and almost immediately going off normal?
After you start the bike, if the engine light comes on for 8 seconds, then goes out, there was some sort of "event" and it has been stored in the bikes memory.
You can do a search on "DTC" or "DTC codes" and find out more.
If the "event" doesn't happen again after 50 cycles (start/run/stop) the light will go out on it's own.
I have a 2005 classic and the check engine light comes on after i turn on the bike and it goes out and then comes back on. Also the bike is running ruff with the check engine light going on and off.
Sounds like they have set the idle too low. As you let the clutch out, it lowers the idle a tad bit and might not have enough oil pressure for just a bit, causing oil light to blink on for a second. Might try to set idle up to 1000 to 1050 rpms. Those MM injection systems can be a pain to get the idle right. Also make sure the air bleeds (@ 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock position in intake) are clean. I spray Sea Foam in mine from time to time when mine won't idle right and it helps.
