Default Wow, I thought Ducati parts were spendy.

If I'm reading the prices of all the miscellaneous crap you need correctly, it's ~$500 for a passenger back rest on my 09 RKC?!

Yeah, I know - $20k bike and I'm complaining about $500? I get that. It's just that sometimes when you see something and expect it'll cost a certain amount, finding out the actual price is kind of shocking

Trust me - after a year, a hundred dollars will seem like chump change!
Welcome to the game......

A good friend rides an EGC and managed a Yamaha dealership in a previous life. He claims HD parts are very reasonable compared to any equivalent part for a Jap bike, so it may be relative.

Really? Hmm, haven't bought Japanese bike parts in years.

With Ducati, it depends. Things like aftermarket exhausts are much more expensive on Ducatis than what I've seen with HD. Carbon fiber parts prices seem to be on par with chrome part prices ;-)

My son rides a Ducati Monster. The differece seems to be there is a lot less customizing to do on a Ducati. And, I have riden lots of Jap Bikes and to some extent it's the same issue. There's just not that much stuff out there, certainly nothing to compare with the options to customize your Harley. Having done some of all of these, I feel the Harley parts, in general, are more available (more competition) and less expensive.

Honda service sucks
Get a vtx serviced and it will cost as much as any HD and they do a lot less.
The Jap parts as much or more than HD parts.
Oil filter is 1 dollar difference and it's black not chrome.
Oil is about the same price except it is dyno oil.

HD= $100

Welcome to the HD world

You think $500 is bad? I've spent that in oil changes over the last 30,000 miles (2 1/2 years)! Another $600 in tires! All DIY's too.... At least double that if I had to pay labor.
That's not including the thousands in accessories!
I'm in the process of ripping into my trans - I'm 1 month out of warranty!
It's a money pit - which so far - I'm willing to tolerate?

Do yourself a favor - spend the money on HD's service manual (if you haven't already), and use www.zanottimotor.com or ChicagoHD for your parts, as was stated above.

If it sounds like I'm made of money - I'm not - just an average Joe with a VERY understanding wife!
