Default Realistic Time

I have an appointment next Thurs. to replace the shift rod lever on my bike. I know the primaries have to come off and all the goodies in there. But actually if a guy really works at it, how much time will it take. I am going to do the repair at my Indy's shop using his tools, etc. I am fairly mechanicly inclined and just wonder how much time is involved? Thanks for the help.....

Well i got the trailer, and will load the bike on Thurs morning, also got it in low gear,so at least i won't have to push it on the trailer. Someone surely has changed the lever, how long did it take..

I replaced the shift rod lever yesterday, it was a little challenging, it took me approximately 6 hrs. The replacement part had a bad threaded section, so couldn't take it back, so we had to fix it. But all in all, it is most likely anyone with mechanicly skills could do. The clutch adjustment wasn't hard to do, once I understood how to do it. My total cost for the job was: 87.60 parts...100.00 shop rent and advise when needed.

Same problem here. Ive done several in the past & even for a quick mechanic its 3+ hrs.

Mine started stripping on the way home from a road trip last weekend. Tried to tighten it on the road but the bolt wouldnt budge. It will be taken to Carson City HD for the same repair, fortunately I have the Ext Warr so all I'll pay out is $50.00.

I was fortunate to get in due to Street Vibrations coming next weekend.

Was your lever splines stripped ? Was the trans shaft ok ?

The local dealers didnt have the correct part so I opted for the Drag #1811-2124 which is a forged steel replacement & chromed too... same price as the stock replacement which looks like its cheap cast steel. ... hope it fits or Im in a bind, lol

The splines on the lever were completely stripped, the tranny shaft was ok. I think the part we used was from drag and the treaded part was done at such an angle that the bolt when inserted after the part was on the bike wouldn't engage the threads. We went an different route which should make tightening it a lot easier. We put a grade 8 bolt through the lever and installed a lock nut on it. I checked to see if I could get to it on the bike and it will be tight but I can. I learnt a lot, and would be at total ease doing it again myself. I would like to know for sure what the HD labor cost would be.

Mine came off a month or so ago. It was not put on right at the factory. There was no damage to the splines on the lever or the shaft. I put it back on without removing anything. It's not that hard to get to from the bottom.

On my 2005 the tranny shaft is like a 16th of an inch from the inner primary, no way it was coming off anyother way. If they made them in two pieces then it would be a easy job. How did you get yours off from underneath ?
