Default Alaska Leather Seat Pad - great addition

Just picked up a new Deluxe ButtPad from Alaska Leather and wanted to share a few thoughts about touring comfort.

The ButtPad is one more option in a long list of possibilities for those looking for long haul comfort. Comfort is an elusive thing and we all have our likes and dislikes. For me, the ButtPad is a wonderul addition to my arsenal.

I replaced the original seat on my Ultra Classic with a Reach seat so I could be a little lower and a little more forward. I then had Mean City Cycles replace the stock foam with memory foam, which is fantastic. My trips improved immediately.

Next I added the Alaska Leather Deluxe ButtPad, and my comfort level got even better. This is a thick, high quality, fairly inexpensive option that will do a lot to improve touring comfort. I recommend you consider one of these ButtPads.

If you decide to order one, call and talk to Barb. Don't use email as I did the first time I ordered. Barb is great and will gladly talk you through the various options and find the best one for your needs. If you send email, you'll miss the oportunity to take advantage of her knowledge.

I've attached a picture of my seat, and the ButtPad I added to the Pillion.

May be what I need. About 400 miles is my daily limit. A little more comfort and perhaps I could make it 500!

Yep, got one from there and it is top quality and goes on my seat for any trip over 50 miles. It makes a very big difference.

It looks like it'd be comfortable, what if you get caught in a good rain?

I think the biggest benefit that I noticed was that it keeps you cooler when it's hot out, cuts out sweating in the seat area altogether for me. Don't know about cold weather riding. I try to avoid that.

I have had the same Alaska Leathers pad on 3 bikes - 2001 EGC, 2002 FLSTS and now a 2005 EG Standard. Worked great. It is now on a cop seat. Works to cool; keeps you warmer when its cold. If it gets wet, it smells like hell.

I bought mine right before a 4,400 mile ride.It did all that the others have said.
Just wash it in the sink with Baby Shampoo, air dry and brush it out if it smells too bad at the end of a hot summer.

This picture was taken at about the 4,000 mile mark of that trip.

Stafford,

If you go to the Alaska leather web site they answer your rain question. Basically, don't worry about it. If it does get wet, just shake out the water, blot with a towel and put it back on.
