I'm sure most of us have the service manuals for our bikes and follow the directions as stated but today while reviewing page 2-16 of the 09 Touring Manual on rear wheel assembly, I found a step missing.
It says to tighten the rear wheel cone nut to 15-20 ft/lbs prior to adjusting the drive belt.
It then continues with the steps BUT omits the crucial step of torquing the cone nut to 95-110 ft/lbs after the drive belt is adjusted which it states in the torque section of the manual.
For an inexperienced wrencher, omitting that step would be a safety issue to say the least.

I thought I would do the right thing and call the MoCo.
After talking to two CS people, the 2nd one went to speak with a tech and this was their answer.
You have to go to different sections of the manual to get the complete install instructions on many of the parts, i.e., go to the Belt Adjusting Section which gives the final torque figures for the rear wheel.
Sounds pretty stupid to me not to have the complete install information in one spot but what do I know!!!!

My guess is that it is such an obvious step that most people overlook it. Snug (15-20), set, torque. If someone is so inexperienced that they screw this up, maybe they shouldn't wrench on their own scoot.
good catch though!

The service manuals do that a lot, make you go from one section to another in order to get all the info. And as far as the response from the MOCO, typical.

Not having my service manual here at work...
I think there is a section in the front that provides information regarding errors noted in the manual. This section can be filled out and mailed to MOCO.
