Default 08 Street Glide front Wheel Swap to 18"

I've got a 08 street glide w/stock 16" front wheel. Want to go with 2010 street glide front wheel. I'm thinking all I need is the wheel, new tire and the proper spacer and bearings, which I beleive is HD part# 41455-08b. Has anyone done this.

Thanks for any help!

I went with an 18" HD Reaper wheel and it's great! It did not change the handling at all. I was worried about going with a larger wheel because of the adverse handling.

The 18" wheel according to past posts on this forum say that it is a direct bolt on. I just bought this wheel on E bay with an ABS bearing for half the cost of new. I changed the bearing to a non ABS and put on the new tire. I won't be able to get it on the bike for a few days. I can't ride it anyways. But here is a picture of the wheel before it goes on the bike.

Adverse handling? What are you talking about? (I know you say it didn't change it, but why did you think it may?) I have only had 100 miles under my seat on this bike, but love the way it handles so far. On one of my rides I took an exit ramp, nothing radical, didn't try to scrape the boards or anything, but this bike handles far better than my 2000 Softail Standard did I think.

I have no facts to back it up other than what others have told me but I have heard that going to a 21" with a narrower width tire on the front will change the handling. It made sense to me from years of racing cars that staggered tire sizes really changes the handling on a four wheeled vehicle so I figured that it would be more dramatic with two wheels. Anyway, when I went to the 18" front on my '08 I didn't notice any changes in the handling. I mentioned this because I thought that that was the kind of information that you were looking for.

You may have to change the rotos, also.

On my wife's 09 Street Glide I went from the stock 09 Ultra Classic wheels (they're not for sale with tires mounted) 16" to 09 Screamin Eagle Road Glide Blade wheels, 18". Had to change the rotors, also.

I rode it 120 miles home and it handles great, actually smoothed out the ride a bit.....but I expected that with a bigger wheel. I also had the calipers chromed, too.

Why would you have to change rotors going from a stock 16" 08 SG wheel to a stock !8" 2010 SG wheel? If you do custom wheels you would change the rotors to match the wheel.

Click on the pictures to enlarge them.....look at the wheels and rotors and you'll see why they were not interchangable.
