Messed with a few stuck filters in the past, tried teh screwdriver thing once it ripped the filter apart, what a mess. Had better luck with large Channel locks but if you start crushing the filter forget it (grabbing near the end closest to the seal works best).
Fortunately these were not on a Harley and had more room around them.
On the Harley I used a cap style wrench that I cut myself for the first change, it was a tight fit but worked, Since then I've used oil filter pliers. A strap wrench would work too, I have one that fits on a 3/8 ratchet.

Speaking of K&N, where could you get a case at a good discount?

I've always used a strap wrench on my Harleys. If it starts to slip I just place some heavy grit sandpaper between the filter and wrench band and it works like charm.

Usually am able to get them off with one similiar to TheBagger's, just a little more heavy duty. Usually have to use it 3-4 times a day when working and the the H-D one wears out too fast. For the filters that are really stuck on I use a Snap-On strap wrench that hasn't failed me yet.

Truely amazing. Fourteen replys and only one person caught on that the "crank sensor" is in his way.

Remove the crank sensor and the cap wrench fits on no problemo.

Yup never have to worry about that again. Before the K&N I had to go old school and poke a hole in it with the trusty screwdriver to get it off.
