What I do know is of all the bikers I have asked about belt life the only one that indicated he broke a belt was at 95,000 miles. Service manager at my dealer has indicated his experience is belts break after only a few miles (defective) or they run "forever."

Resurrecting and old post:

I'm having long block engine replace at 160K. I asked for a new belt and they either forgot or just didn't care.

The mechanic told me my belt was good as new and would probably last forever. WTF?

I had an old Ultra and it had a hole in the belt when I bought it
The owner said it had been there for many many years 40,000 miles
I just rode it and forgot about it
Them belts are tough

If the owner thrashes his bike senselesly, a belt is a 30K commodity. If you ride with common sense... It will last the life of the motorcycle.

I have 88,000 miles on my original belt. Rear pulley definitely looks worn but the belt still looks alright. Problem for me is I have developed a squeak that is driving me nuts.
