Default crack at the Y pipe on 1995 FLHT

How hard is it to get this rear exhaust header pipe off to install a new one? Do I need to take off the entire front exhaust as well. Looking at the manual it seems I can get by without taking the front off. Any short cuts to this job. Thanks

Did it at least twice on my 92, not that bad just have to wiggle it out and in, not much room. I thought they gave me the wrong pipe but it went in eventualy. I don't think I had to mess w the front but it's been a while, maybe just loosen the header bolts and hanger bracket. I had it welded once also but they eventually crack with all the heat and stress.

i just welded mine up when it cracked. i welded it while it was still on the bike. any muffler shop can weld it if you aren't able to. muffler shop welds are the same as the moco welds or maybe even better. the pipes don't know who's welding them.

It all depends were the crack is as far as the welding the header while it is still on the bike. I have welded several over the years (I'm a boilermaker) with no issues. Depending on who is doing the work and how much there are going to charge compaired to buying a new header pipe.

I had to loosen the front exhaust (almost to the point where it was off the bike) before I could get the rest off. Did you figure out why it cracked at the Y? On my bike, the exhaust support bracket that runs down the left fender was broken down low. I had to replace it at the same time.

My '95 cracked a couple of times in the same area. Got tired of welding (and re-welding) and installed a Full Sac TD conversion to eliminate that pain-in the-a$$ "Y" pipe altogether. It sounds worlds better and I think it runs better also. The only drawback is the right side heatshields. Their kit doesn't come with any and that's a shame (none available anywhere). I finally made mine from a pair of straight 12" shields and it looks a lot better than turning the stockers backwards. Full Sac, are you listening?

Not sure but I think they added the Y pipe bracket support after 95. When mine cracked I had to strip the whole thing off because it cracked around to the cylinder.

Mine broke in the middle of a trip to New England from Milwaukee. Somewhere in Vermont it cracked out, dealer was closed on Sunday but the owner was there, sent me to a guy that fabs race cars. Took an hour to strip and another hour to get it back together, took this guy 5 minutes to weld. And he wouldn't take my money!

Great people on the road for sure!

Just got mine torn apart to replace the y-pipe. I found a y-pipe on ebay for $40 so that will go on once I get a new c-clip and that crappy exhaust bracket that broke. I did not have to touch the front pipe, but removed everything else. The b&tch was getting the y-pipe separated from the left side exhaust pipe. Mine was too far gone to weld unfortunately.

Anyone come up with a better design for that exhaust bracket that fits under the clamp? I know this thing is going to break again...

As stated above this is real common with the EVO's. My '96 cracked twice and each time I had it welded, The last time I bought a new one and didn;t have a problem after that. However I don't have the bike any more.
