Wink Rework windhield possible?

Hey Everyone,

The RKC is 3 years old now, pushing 35K miles, and the windshield is starting to look... well you know. Has anyone attempted or successfully buffed one out to get a little more life out of it. Not that I'm a cheap s***, I'm just a diy type, always looking for something to do. Thanks.

I have wondered if those head light restore kits for cars would work on a shield.
I am not sure what the head lights are covered in poly carbonate or acrylic, if they are poly carb, it should work.

Dealerships sell this S100 polish that comes in a toothpaste style tube. The instructions say you can use it to buff minor scratched out of windshirelds. I've only used it on chrome....wipe it on doinf little circles...let it dry...and buff it out. It does a Bada$$ job on chrome. Not sure what it'd do for your windshield, but even if it turns out not to work (and I'm guessing it would)...you'd still have a tube of some pretty fantastic chrome polish. Just don't get it on a black wrinkle engine finish...it's somewhere between hard, and impossible to get off if you do.

P.S. Make sure it's the S100 in the tube. They sell a bunch of different kinds of S100, but the stuff in the tube is what I'm talking about.

Novus comes in 3 different formulas, One for everyday cleaning and polishing, one for light scratches, and one for heavier scratches. its made for our windshields, and works real well. I have taken light scratches and made them virtually disapear.

Using the everyday formula is the only thing I ever put on my shield other than water, and it polishes as it cleans.

Available at your local Dealer.

When I had my 02 HD RK the shield was polycarbonate & has a very thin coating of hard plastic. Once the hard coat starts to flake off all you can do it remove all of it or replace it. Mine was bad enough to just replace it.

Best stuff I've found yet. Use it on virtually everything on the bike, and does wonders on the shield. Bought a good used shield from a fellow member, polished it and it looks brand new. Worked fabulous on my full length RK style shield.

You will never get a fully optically clear windshield with a polish. It may have a scratch resistant coating which will also be damaged. If it's badly scratched in the visible zone best to bite the bullet and replace it.

just buy a replacement plexiglass from someone like zanotti or someone. It is around 120 or so and you use your existing hardware. Pretty easy to do and will take you around the same amount of time as buffing it out.

The factory shield from harley is coated.
If you try to polish you will see all kinds of rainbow colors in the shield if you wear polarized lenses.
The coating must be removed completely and then it could be polished but as mentioned the results in the line of sight will not be optically clear.
May wish to consider replacement if a good cleaning does not improve look.

Thanks Guys,

I'll pull the trigger for a new one. No big deal.
