Default PYO bars almost on!!

Started tonight at 7. A few quick trips to get some longer ball allen wrenches to take off the radio, and some tubing to bleed the brakes.

Need to get a trans bracket exhaust bolt, that sucker was cross threaded or something. Exhaust came off smoothly though. It's only a couple months old though. Can't imagine taking it off with a few years of weather under the belt.

Clutch and brake lines are ran. Had to "MOD" the russell dist block for the dual front brakes. The round block interfered with the pin. Drilled a hole and got lucky with the positioning and it worked out great.

Left side of the bars are done, baby powder and some skinny chain and it took all of a minute. Took longer to google how to find out how to take the damn connector apart!

All in all it's been a very fun and a great learning experience with the bike. Not entirely that hard, just time consuming. I've learned to just take my time instead of trying to blast through it. Saves lots of broken stuff!

FBW/TBW side tomorrow. Could be interesting. On a side note, no wiring extensions needed. Can unclip the connectors in the fairing and make the connections work. The FBW connector has a TON of extra slack. Could put 20" bars on and make the connector hook up.

I'll put up some pics when done. On pace for the Saturday Black Hills trip though.

This forum rocks

Let me know how the taller bars work with the fairing mirrors... I want to do the same thing.

Very nice.
I will be doing the same thing "hopefully" soon, once my 12" Monkeys arrive.
Same question....keep us posted how well the mirrors work after your bars are on. I hope they will still work.

What size bars you puttin on?

Let's not forget about the longer cables and lines too.
Did those have to changed out too SDV?

Putting on the 12.5's.

Installed a +6 Upper brake line with new distribution block and 16" lowers brake lines. I'd say the stock lower's were more like 18" but the 16's work fine.

+6 on the clutch too. I swear draining the trans is the messiest job of the bunch. It always drips on the frame support bracket down there and gives the bike the 80's leaking Harley syndrome

I did get a Namz wire extension kit but i'll be returning that puppy. 53 bucks or so back in my pocket.

You will need a big snap ring pliers for inside the trans cover. The snap ring in there is healthy. Also a long ball allen wrench to take the radio out. A set of some pics or tiny screwdrivers for the connectors. Other than that it's been regular sockets & wrenches.

Off at noon today, hopefully i'll have them mounted up and exhaust back on by tonight.

I did see somewhere that they stock bars feel like bicycle handlebars compared to these. I'll second that, these things are beefy and have some substantial metal to them! Feels like i could bend the stocker's in half. Good luck doing that with these things!

How long did it take to receive your PYO bars? I placed an order the first week of April and haven't heard anything. I know they've been several weeks in filling orders, I'm just wondering what experience you all have had in terms of real delivery times.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I had a local guy order them from Yaffe. Took him a good 3-4 weeks with shipping. From what I was told, he's getting around 16 in a week and as orders come in they get filled in line. I was #21 when he placed the order. Picked up my bars yesterday. That included shipping I guess which from Arizona to SD is 4-5 days.

Who did you order them through?

I was in Phoenix and rode over to his shop on Indian School Road. They were closed, but when they saw me peering through the windows they let me in, showed me around, and took my order. They said they'd call me when they were ready and that it would be several weeks.

I just sent them an e-mail this morning asking for an update. It's just now getting to where it's longer than I expected so I thought I'd see how long it was taking others to get theirs.

Thanks,

I'm waiting patiently for my 12s also. I was so mad at myself. I thought I wanted 10s when the 12s were available and then went with 12s because the 10s weren't backordered and they (12s) were backordered. While I have been waiting since April like others, 10s were available for a bit. But I do think I will like the taller bars better after sitting on a couple of bikes with bars at that height. Its funny how the look grows on you. Originally, I thought anything above the fairing looked odd. Now I think it looks great. Weird!

Glad to hear the wire reroute works as that is what I am planning to do as well. Thanks for the info! I like to read as much as possible as I go into this. Do you have ABS? That is the next thing I am worried about. I have heard you have to take it in to get the brakes bled using the digital tech. Something about abs has to be pulsed to bleed completely. I am only changing the upper and midline until I get my chrome lowers.

I put 12's on and you guys sill be pleased with these bars, and I think they are worth the wait. I waited almost 3 1/2 months to get mine but on my gosh I love these bars! Look cool, and feel better! Mirrors are not a huge pain, you have to learn to look under your arms.

I love mine!
