Default 06' and newer wheel bearings question.

When changing tires on my 06' RG. Do the wheel bearings need to be pulled out, cleaned and regreased, then reinstalled with new seals like the older ones I had on my 99' Ultra , or are they sealed?

Their sealed....if their leaking or if your on your second tire or so...I'd swap em out. They dont cost much and there have been a few posts about the sealed ones failing here and there. I'd swap em out just for peace of mind.

I assume I'm about to install the third rear tire, but I'm just guessing. I bought the bike last year at an auction, so I don't really know how many tires have been on it, but it has Michelins, and it has 33,000 kms. About 22,000 miles.
I'm 2 1/2 hours from an HD store though, but maybe I'll wait until I can get some.

Wally, the HD Service Manual says to check them with your finger by rotating the inner race on both sides: "Replace wheel bearings if there is rough rotation, abnormal noise, or anything unusual." Replace as a pair if needed.

Positive, theyve been sealed since 2000.

Like Harleypingman said rotate the wheel while hoilding the inner races in your fingers, they should run nice and smooth.

They are supposed to be good for 100k unless you have an 08 or early 09 then they seem to be going out around 20k

Yup that is exactly the proceedure from the manual. But because there good when you feel them dont mean they will be good in 5000 more miles....
Order them from the internet HD dealer and pop them in. One less thing to worry about since you'll have the wheel off anyway.

How comforting! As an update on my ABS light, Digital Tech claims it's the front sensor, and of course is on backorder and we didn't have one on hand. It still could be the bearing however, but I have to start with a known good sensor to continue the test. Sooooo, I have to wait until the end of June to get the sensor.
