Default Primary oil change

I just did a search and could not find what I need to know. I'm getting ready to change the oil in a 01 Road King and need to know how many oz. of Oil goes in the primary. Thanks for the advice in advance.

My service manual for my '05 says 32oz. It also shows that the level should be checked while the bike is level. The fluid should touch the bottom of the clutch plates according to the picture in the manual.

You don't say what year or type of bike you're working on.
For my '08 FLHR the service manual says to add 38 fl. oz. of oil to the primary.
Anyone who does their own work should invest in a manual rather than trust the word of random people on the internet. JMO.

If you read his post you would know he is working on an 01 Road King.

Thirty-eight ounces is the dry primary fill. Thirty-two ounces is the wet fill. Drain the oil, replace the drain plug, and add one quart (32 oz.). Done.

not sure where the 38 oz comes from, my manual for 02 touring states 32 oz is a fill.
if I pull the primary off and replaced the gasket, it's still only 32 oz.

It can't be emphasized enough: You really need to get a H-D service manual for your bike. The amount of oil (32 oz) is only one line of data in the service manual. There is much more there that you should follow. Torque values for the primary cover, torque values for the drain plug, o-rings to replace (although I have re-used them on occasion), etc.. Parts manual is also useful and not just for ordering parts -- the exploded views are very helpful.
