The left one on my '03 EG Classic squeaked, about driving me crazy. I would WD40 it and it would last a couple of weeks. Finally I took the rubber off and loaded it with white lithium grease. It stopped it till it was sold (approx. 1 year).
Funny, I have MO's on my Ultra and while I was out with my SO the squeak was driving me crazy and when I checked underneath I discovered the rubber grommet had come thru the clamp and I had metal on metal. I took care of it the next day but I had never had that happen before. Right side only, probably 5-6k miles on the mufflers.
Ok, heres an update. I checked everything, the rubber did not slide out, there is just quite a bit of movement in the grommet. Let me clairify, by quite a bit of movement I mean, 1/16". thats a lot! I had a piece of old inner tube, I have cut it to fit and forced it under the flat side of the muffler bracket with the help of some silicone spray lube. put everything back together,Started up the unit and ,NO SQUEAK ! We'll see how long this lasts. I'll keep you posted.
I also have the V&H MO's and the rubber gasket came off one side. I re-installed the gasket and put few zip ties around it to keep it in place... I know, it's not an elegant solution but it is cheap, it is not visible, and it works...
you are the man tteazis, I will have to try that zip tie idea. For some reason mine has slipped out 3 or 4 times on the right side only. This last time I adjusted the angle on the pipe a little ( v/h mo's). Hopefully a combo of both zip ties and adjustment will do it for me.
My grommets started squeeking too...I took them out and put silicone GREASE (o-ring grease) on the grommet where it meets the bracket. Silicone will not degrade the rubber, and stays put
No more squeek. Skweek. Sqweek. Squeak. Something like that...
Before I went with a 2-1,one of the mufflers was rattling at the rubber grommet.I used some Chanellocks to squeze the metal bracket which tightened the grommet.
