Russ,

Thanks for the heads up call this morning.

When riding two up you are going to add preload if you want your ride height to stay the same. Basically increase the spring pressure by turning the collar down collapsing the spring. For most people you will add about 1-2 turns down when riding two up then remove it when riding solo.

Many people do not change it at all when riding two up, it is rider preference.

Thanks,

Brian

Well there you have it, I was doing things backwards.

So I'd ideally want my rider sag somewhere around 1-1/2" then?

Sorry about that. If you don't hear back from me in a couple of days then I never got it, lost it, or it went in the spam filter. With my e-mail address all over the internet the volume can be intense at times.

If I don't respond then please re-send it.

Brian

OK, well I just reset my sag from 2" (which was where Brian suggested I start) to 1-1/2". Nice difference on a little run through the neighborhood. I don't think I'll have the opportunity to ride any appreciable distance or carry a passenger until Thursday or Friday.

I think that's where I went the wrong way on the two-up setting. Intuitively, I figured the passenger would add extra weight on the spring so I reduced pre-load to compensate for the extra sag. I will have to play around with the setting when I get some time to ride with my wife. Thanks for the clarification!

Ok, I finally had the chance to go for a two-up ride today with my daughter. Long story short, at 1-5/16" of rider sag, the ride is a bit on the firm side for solo riding. But that same setting with my 135 pound daughter on the pillion is money. I figure backing it off half a turn for solo riding will be the sweet spot, and half turn more will compensate for a full touring load.

This thread will certainly be helpful to me when my shocks get here. Tick, tick, tick.
