Default Harley Stock Road King Seat

Could someone explain to me why HD uses such an awful seat on the Road King

Does HD think these seats are even the least bit comfortable.

I know it's all about selling accessories but come on you can't even ride 50 miles on one of these thing's

Yep - I replaced it with a Sundowner and backrest

Because not everyone considers it awful. I am on my second road king and have no complaint with the seat.

+1 !!!! My seat is three years old and is starting to separate at the seams, a tiny spot, about 1/2". I'm working a deal right now with a guy who has a "take off" stock seat to replace it. I find it to be very comfortable and the ol' lady agrees. Sorry you're not happy, but there are plenty of options out there, like buy another seat built to HD's specification which you did. All the seats, stock and in the HD catalog are made by the same vendor, this includes the Sundowner. Sundowner is a style, not a brand. If you really want different try Mustang, La Pera, Danny Gray, etc.

I think HD's typical rider "model" must be 6'2" and 150 lbs.

At 6'2" and pushing 300 lbs I know the stock RK seat doesn't work well with my big azz.
