Default Sharknose or Batwing

As I add more and more touring style accessories to my Dyna I think maybe i should move up to a touring model. I like the Street Glide and the Road Glide. Which one offers best wind protection?

You need to ride them both to see which one you prefer.

The streetglide fairing is closer to the rider, and offers a bit more wind protection, but it all depends on which windshield you're running.

Depends on YOU, as much as the bike. How tall YOU sit on it etc.
Of course... as a FLTR owner, I'm partial to the Road Glide.
You will hear from the many Street Glide owners how muh better their bike is.

Best advice I can give you... is road test each... and see which you like better.

With the Road Glide, you will likely need a different windshield.... but I know a lot of batwing riders who find they have to change shields as well.

For ME..... the bat wing feels too "in my face" while the shark, seems more spacious.

Minor differences between the two models.... wheel size... and rear shock size.... That's all. Same frame... same engine... same transmission.... same everything.... 'cept the fairing, and above items

2006-2009 same wheels/tires SG is 0.5 inches lower (rear shocks)
2010 Both bikes (FLTRX FLHX)shared the lower shocks
2011 FLTRX,FLHX again are the same while the FLTRU sits about 1/2 inch taller

YES... different wheel options are avaiable... but I'm talking stock to stock... not cosmetics

Here's a pretty good discussion.

.... you don't get asked 'is that a Harley?' quite so much & you won't hear the word 'fugly' whispered behind yer back on poker runs.
.............. other than that, i'd go w/the Road Glide.

SG w/a real windshield is perfect IMO. I intially was going to get a RG due to the fairing mount similar to metric bikes I've owned and was more comfortable with. Can't go wrong w/either and to those who bash the RG, f'em. I think th RG is a sharp bike just not for me.

You gotta ride them both to answer that question for yourself. Try a rental of each and spend some time on them. I had the same question about Road King vs Electra glide. These machines cost too much to make a bad choice based on anothers opinion. The first bagger I took on a short test ride around town had me questioning whether a bagger was for me or not. The thing was sluggish, and clumsy in town. After a day long rental on the road the baggers really shined. If you took a short test ride on a dyna, then a bagger, you'd like the handling of the dyna better. A day or a week on both would show the superiority of the bagger.

Batwing!! I think the Road Glides are fugly. I still have the stock short windscreen, but the batwing provides a lot of wind protection.
