Default Chrome Switch Housings or Chrome Caps?

I have the stock black switch housings and caps on my Ultra. I need opinions about installing chrome housings and/or caps by myself. Please give me an idea how diffiucult it is and if I'd be wise to let the dealer do it.

Is installing one or the other easier.....meaning....is it easier to just install the caps versus the housings or are the housings easier than the caps? I think black and chrome would look fine in either configuration.....black housings with chrome caps or chrome housings with black caps.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I like them both in chrome. I can be a PIA. Depends on how mechanically inclined you are.

I've done both. Black housings w/Chrome Switch Covers and Chrome Housings only.
All depends on what look you're going for and what YOU want. BTW: I'm getting to
redo my FLHTK and go all Chrome. Best advice I can give you is to follow the install instructions and TAKE YOUR TIME AND GO SLOW. It's not hard. New Chrome Housings will require you to pull the old wiring harness and re-run the new wiring harnesses, which can be a pain. Follow the instuctions to the letter when it comes to removing the brake
lever! That brake switch can be very fragile and if you don't "protect it" per the instructions, you'll break off the plunger tab and have to replace that switch. Installing just the Chrome covers isn't difficult as long as you go slow and take your time and be
patient; those pivot tabs can get "contrary" when you're installing the chrome covers....

I have both in chrome. If I had to choose one or the other, I prefer the black housings with chrome switches. I didnt do mine but, my wrench says the switches are a PIA.

Chrome switch housings with black buttons for a bit of contrast.

I've done both, and I agree, both can be a PITA. I have the chrome switches on my Ultra and like them, the decision was purely a financial one at the time, the switches were WAY less expensive than the housings.

I installed the chrome housings on my 2007 heritage and just month ago put he housings on my 2010 limited. Kept the switched black, I like the contrast... Recommendation; do the left hand one first,,,, Read the instructions TWICE, Replacement not a hard job but you must be patient, especially when putting the lower wiring in and tightening the screws.... AND the brake switch is Very importantant,, use the cardboard from a box to put in there.. Take it slow, put the instructions on the seat to look at and you will do fine.. Still a PITA,,, But looks COOL.. IMHO

Is the cardboard is to protect the switch when you remove the brake lever?

I like the chrome housings with black buttons myself. I've seen other's that have installed both in chrome and the chrome buttons would stick ever so often. But to each there own. You'll make the rite choice, if not, just change it.
