Default 255 cam in 96 in.

Do I need to install an aftermarket tuner other than my current IED's if I install 255's in a stock '07 Ultra with just a SE air cleaner. I'm not a hotrodder and seldom excede 3000 rpm's, just an old man touring 2 up ? Thanks for any help

Yes..If you want to get the most out of your cams. If not why put them in?

Do a search for member iclick and his write up on 255s in his 96". He uses a Power Commander and really likes the cams.

+1... or just search "255" and you'll get all the info you need! I have them & they work real well in a stage1 96". I also have the PC-V w/ Auto Tune, base mapped by Fuel Moto and feel no need to get it "dyno" tuned!

Your stock ECM mapping won't be optimal if you change cams, so it would be best to bite the bullet and buy a tuner. The best bargain would be to buy a Fuel Moto tuner (same as a PCIII only cheaper) or a PCV from them, preferably the latter, as I know he has a map for your bike (same as mine). It's plug-and-play, reasonably priced, and once done you'll be set. BTW, you'll need to remove the IED's with the PC installed.

I'm thinkin thats what my goal is.....right now Jackpot Dyno (may change) but my next step is TFI and a SE air cleaner (Stage 1). After that...SE 255 cam. so my question is; will the TFI (simple as pie) be enough to adjust to the new cam? 2009 RKClassic. Thanx for any input.

Your bike will run better with a fuel tuner, mapped for your application. However, you can try it without a tuner, it won't hurt anything. If it runs well enough to suit you, you might be able to save a couple of bucks. However, there's no doubt it would be better with a properly mapped tuner.

Here is another option and some background...

I ran Xieds for two years and thoguht they worked really well with a Stage one intake and exhaust. I was pleased with them.

On the new bike I went full stage one on the 103 with tuner. Its not apples to apples but the performance difference was incredible.

If you are currently running just IEDs I would first get the tuner and have it set up for your bike. This may be more than enough for you and will be a decent step up from where you are today.

You can always add the cams later and just get a different map (usually free or very cheap) to match the 255s to your set up.

Just a thought - but I would go for the tuner first and then take the next set - seems like you ar getting the cart before the horse a little.

BTW - 255's are probably my next performance mod. MAybe a year away though.

good luck.

The Fuelmoto branded PC111 isn't much more than a TFI and will come with a map, 2 year warranty and free support for map changes, etc.
