you give up a wet clutch, thats important in slow city traffic, belt is noisy, clutch lever pull is harder.

I've never ridden a bike with an open primary, but I do have to say they look pretty darn cool...

They have a distinctive sound, which I like. They have a reduced friction zone, which takes a couple of rides to get used to. You can get your pants leg or boot lace caught in the pulley, I suppose. I've never seen it happen, only heard about it second and third hand ("a friend of mine" kind of stories). I have worn down the in sides of the soles on some riding boots, which isn't a big deal. I don't really worry about the dangers of riding in general anyway. ( If you don't wear a DOT helmet everytime you go riding, but want to lecture me about the dangers of an open belt primary, I will mock you )

If you apply logic to your modification decisions, an open belt may not be for you. If you apply logic to all your decisions, I don't understand why you'd be on a Harley in general, and a modified Harley especially.

first one I had was in 1976 from phase three. one of the first out and then I had a tauer warlord a few years ago.
for some reason they made the bike feel like it was faster coming out of the hole. I did get a pair of bell bottoms caught in the belt on the phase three but who the heck wears bell bottoms since the 70s.
its all about making the bike your own. right now I'm good with a wet clutch...that may change, who knows.

Default open primary drive.

Have read all the threads, the upshot is.... if you like the look then **** it go for it , if you don't then don't , choose your preference and go for it. if you read all the pro's and con's on any forum you wouldn't do any thing! what ever happens to being individual?? isn't that what having a Harley is all about??? or should i just buy a Ferrari??? May be its just an English thing.
