I upgraded my '04 RK because I'm going to keep the bike and wanted new cams anyway. The spring tensioners worked OK but they're obsolescent and I didn't want to spend $130.00 on new ones.

I would spend the $300, selling point is good plus in my mind you never know how many miles you will get out of the new old style shoe set up. They have crapped out at 7K and some have lasted past 80K. My $0.03.

Hope not...just don't like piling money into it at this stage...but it has been one great bike...not one problem...11,000 mile trips and trouble free all the way. Looks like new with the way I take care of it, and hate to see parts all over the place...keep looking to buy new Ultra, but my bike looks better, to me, than the new ones. Thanks for all the replies.

If I was keeping the bike long term, I'd do the hydraulic upgrade. Not sure if keeping the bike long term, replace the stock tensioners.

I am tossing this around too. Just pulled the cam cover off of my 02 Roadking and the outside cam shoe is almost gone, this is at 45,000. I have gotten a couple of prices from independent shops one quoted around 2300.00 to replace everything including the cam plate, lifters, pushrods and oil pump replacing with gears another told me that in 05 the nylon shoes were improved and just relace them with a bearing kit at around 700.00. However I have a couple of months to think about this any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Guess my ESP is really working... my upgrade is 300 bucks, and so far ESP has covered over $1400.00 worth of work.
