Default Fairing turn signal mod for lane change safety and rider ease of seeing

I've been planning this for quite some time and finally found the lights I wanted. Been out in the garage installing this and have it mostly done so I thought I'd post it up. My reasoning behind this is three-fold. First, because of my radio plate around the radio and signal indicator I can barely see when the signals are on unless I bend down and look. Second, here's the big safety feature, when a vehicle is a lane coming up on either side of you they will be able to see the signal blinking on the rear of the fairing. Third, my wife riding on the back will be able to see the signal and will know when I am planning to turn or change lanes.

As you can see looking down to where the turn signal indicators are, they are hindered from sight by the bezel

This is a $19.67 pack of two flush mount amber clearance lights from Global Parts Inc on amazon.com. You can see how bright these little puppies are.

This is how it comes to you, grommet and light with pigtail lead

For a size reference, the head is the same size as that of a US penny

I used a step drill bit and put the grommet on the bit and put tape on it where I wanted to stop so I didn't go too far. It ended up being too small and I had to go a little farther, but I kept stopping to check fitment

Here you can see where the stock turn signal connector resides on the fairing support by the speaker. This is where you will tie into the signals. The pigtail on the lights are a perfect length to reach the connector

Hole drilled in fairing

As it looks installed from the front

And another shot from the front

That looks pretty cool. I don't know how I'd feel about drilling my painted inner fairing.

Didja take into consideration your hand placement on the bars as far as obstructing the lights? Didja get anything else?

Brilliant and awesome mod. Could I get a part number for the lights?

Edit: Never mind, got it! http://www.amazon.com/Amber-Flush-Ma...7734305&sr=8-3

Looks pretty cool. I only wonder if the flashing light at night will be distraction?

I had been thinking about doing something similar Dawg. I had moved my mirrors to the bars and I was wondering how it would look to put lights wired to the t/s in the stock mirror holes. Looks good!

Very good install . I have the chrome trim piece to put around the same area and never thought i might not see the indicators. Oh well glad they are self canceling.

Ride safe

Took that into consideration. With the sweepers I can still see them. As for getting anything else, just an inflatable playmate!

I've been thinking of this mod for a long time. I like the looks of it and I don't have problem drilling anything. Just didn't find the right l.e.d. for the job. How bright are these things really?

PS
Is that studded leather I see on your crash bars? I bet you have some fringe hid in the closet.
