I have a 2010 Street Glide and I am in the market for a passengers backrest but I am curious as to how these removable ones work. I can see how they fit in one end and the other has some sort of thumb clip. Anyway the difference between the 08 and older vs the 09 and newer looks like a big difference, Does anyone have a pic of a detachable backrest on an 09 or newer that maybe will make sense of how it attaches? If you could remove a saddle bag too would be great. And any info on the luggage racks would be a bonus.
I also have a 2010 SG. There are 2 options for the backrest mounting. A 2 point dock hardware(only the backrest gets mounted) or the 4 point dock hardware(has mounts for both the backrest and a lugage rack). The backrest itself clips on to the sides near the shock and then to the docking hardware. I don't have any pictures but I could take some tomorrow evening if you are interested.
Yep, had me confused right after I installed my four point docking hardware. Someone came up with the smart idea to design the shocks to be the first mounting point and then the backrest locks to the first set of your docking hardware.
So the the shock mount is where the front on the backrest goes..thus the reason that the 08 an older do not work for the 2010 ( diff. Frame??). And if you want to add a luggage rack you need the 4 point system, correct. It would make sense to go ahead with the 4 point for the future I guess even if you did'nt have a luggage rack huh?
Anyway thanks guys that makes more sense now. Anybody know of a better place to purchase than HD Stealer?

Correct to add a detachable luggage rack you would need the 4pt dock. That is why i went with the 4pt to add the luggage rack down the road. Best place i've found thus far to order HD parts is Zanotti's HD. You can order using the part #s found on harleys website and they are a lot cheaper then msrp on parts! hope this helps and good luck with the backrest.
