FLHTCU lowering
If you do decide to lower the bike, the SG or progressive shocks and the progressive monotube front end would definetly be a good way to go. I lowered my bike, not because of height, but it's just something I wanted to do, thats's how I discovered the monotube, ......what a difference over stock, you have to ride it to believe it.
or you could get some stripper boots?? most good wills have em....lol kidding kidding!!!
i saw somethin a few days ago a buddy of mine put on facebook basically you hit a button that you mount on the handle bar and a set of training wheels come down sorta like an airplane would...funniest thing i ever saw...not saying you need training wheels...
rode my buddies sg many of times and he has the 1"-3" drop blocks on the rear as well as my other buddies ultra and ive ridden both and they both handle amazing. just add a lil more air in em when youre gonna load down with 2 up and gear...atleast thats what they said....best of luck

I am 5'7" with only a 29" inseam. When I originally purchased my 08 Ultra, I lowered the bike front and rear with the factory lowered shocks. Now after three years and scraping many floorboards and issues with the jiffy stand. I am now considering installing the original shocks. JMO.
I am 5'4", 27.5 inseam. 152 lbs.
My Street Glide is a great town cruiser but not the best choice on long trips.(Short rear shocks)
My Road King I have a reach seat and the Street Glide type lowering shocks stiff ride. Putting short shocks was a mistake. I am now putting my original shocks back on.
On my Ultra I have started riding before I did any modifications. I am now sorry I wasted money doing modifications on my other bikes. With practice you will get better. Once you get better you will gain confidence. If you are worried about dropping the bike put rubber hose on the guards until you have the confidence to ride with out them. Learn to set the bike down if you have to. Everyone has and will do it. It is no big deal.
Changing suspension with modify the great handling comfortable bike you purchased. It will ruin the charateristics that made you to get a Ultra. Handling-Comfort.
Stop obsessing about the bikes weight. Learn and feel how balanced an Ultra is. It is truly the best balanced bike I have ever owned.(especially at low speeds) Practice the friction zone for starting and stopping. It is timing, But you have to ride and learn the bike. I personally stop with one down, one foot on the rear brake.
I also use Wesco Firestorm boots with tall heal and that is where I gain 1.50 inches in height. Good boots is money better spent. Wesco, White, Redwing Carolina to name a few. Start with a good logger type tread for traction and refine you gear after that. (Also break them in well and oil for comfort)
1000 miles(espeically in a couple of months) is still not enough time in the saddle to even break in or familiarize yourself with your machine. I put 600 miles on our Road Captains ride this weekend.
Also on the 2011 models you may already have low model seat on your bike. Harley made a change. If you look on the bottom of your seat it says LOW.
Hope this helps.
Take care and here is to a great spring riding season.

I would not have believed it but I got some thick sole boots and now can reach the ground and the bike feels stable as I come to a stop. I'm able to have my feet planted further apart and that made the difference. thanks for the help and saving me mucho $.
I am considering purchasing a '09 Ultra Classic.
Has anyone considered installed a Drop Frame Kit? There is no welding required. Basically, everything just bolts on. This kit supposedly drops you approximately 3 inches, without altering the suspension.
My 08 has been lowered with blocks. This changes something with the shock boots and allows them to get torn. When I went to replace the boots, advice was asked for on this forum and one of the first questions was "is the bike lowered?". I have noticed the seat change makes a huge difference in the height of the bike, but there is a definite comfort difference with the seat I have versus the the stock seat and not for the better. Definitely makes the bike look better, but not sure it's worth the losses that come with it.
