there's a lot of satisfaction when you get it back together. there are some things that can be sort of intimidating to us who aren't MMI graduates. you gotta figure though, the occ guys were able to assemble bikes, so for us "non mongoloid" types it should be a piece of cake.

Buy one of these and you won't have to remove the primary:

Replace the inner primary or lip seal as it is called in the manual. $4.65 or so and an easy replace if you have the inner primary off.

I've replaced several of the shifter arms with new. use red lock tite on shifter arm and tranny shaft. I would replace drive belt also with that many miles on it.

The lever and shaft that we are speaking about is the transmission shift lever, not the foot control. You have to remove the primary to get to it and replace the shaft seal.

Wink Get one of these?

The company that make the new and wonderful shift lever is out of stock. Leave your name and number and they will get back to you when they can.

Default Better Lever

Can anyone recommend this yet. I pulled the inner primary to replace the stock lever, but the shifter shaft going into the tranny is somewhat stripped. Is it worth the $160?

Thanks!

I thought mine was stripped too. I put the new lever on and all was good. The local Indy also suggested a tack weld of the lever to the shaft.
