Love my RKC but I love the classic look of spoke wheels, wide whites and leather bags. The cool part is being able to change the looks in 15 mins or less. One up seat, no windshield, set it up two up with detactable backrest or go all out and throw on the detachable leather covered tourpac. Mine has the old skool Roadtech leather covered stereo on the risers which gives it a even more classic look. I've went one step farther and lowered it 1" front and rear.

The only weak link to the RK is the shift linkage. Make your own or buy a custom billet model with hime joints (plus they just look better). Now you have a fail safe ride to last for years to come with regular maintenance.

I have 2 Road Kings in my garage. A 2000 FLHRCI with 64,000 and a 2005 FLHRS with 20,000. The 2000 is stock with staage 1 and updated cam tensioner. 2005 has 95 inch with ported heads, gear drive Andrews cams, 44mm CV, Daytona Twin Tech ignition and V and H exhaust. Very happy wit move from Sporty to Dyna, then Fatboy and now FLHRs. Enjoy the storage!!!

Bought a new 2007 King. Ordered it with cruise which hasn't worked since day 1. Never anytime to take in & now it's obsolete plus $100. deductible. Oh well my own fault. Have taken it on numerous long trips from Yellowknife in Northern Canada to Cabo San Lucas, etc.,. Not one problem in 19000 miles (other than the cruise). All stock but new AC going in next week. Averages about 200 miles to the tank. Absolutely love the bike. Wife hates the passenger seat. To be updated soon I keep telling her. You will love the RK in any model.

I am surprised that no one has complained about the stock handlebars on the road king. The two I had, that would be my only complaint. Had heritage bars on the first and wild one 518's on the second. Wild ones were the MACK Daddys. Unless your 6'8" with long arms, your gonna hate those stock bars on long rides.

I lloked at RK and Heritage soft tail upgrading from 3 years of dyna riding, and when I determined my love in riding is to share it with my wife on back, I went ultra. I am convinced that in a year, you will be looking at a dresser for more storage and comfort. For sure the bagger world is way different than sporty or dyna riding. Check out the deals and stock options on the entire touring line before you commit. BTW, since you state you are good to go on wrenching, I would not do a 103. you can cam a 96 and for alot less money and get better results than a smog cammed 103. JMHO.

SE Heavy Fork Oil. I have a 2010 RK and above 50 mph she'd buck and ride like *****. The dealer said it was "wind buffeting" but that was Pure H-D certified BS.

After adding the heavy fork oil she rides like a dream. In heavy cross winds she is stable and a great ride.

Go with the 2011 RKC!! I love the bike!! Nice ride, 103 engine is quick and responsive. Sometime in the next year gonna do a stage 1, but no cam upgrade. My advice do not open a new engine...not worth the trouble.... good luck! let us know...

I love my 2006 Road King Custom so much, I just bought a 2007 with only 400 miles on it. This being the last year they made 'em, I had to have it.

Love my King. Might love an Ultra better though. Given the choice again I would take the Ultra.

I like the idea of the RKC w/103, cruise, and ABS. I would sell the leather bags and put that toward some sweeeet stretched bags!

Also have to agree the stock RK bars suck. The middle of my back between my shoulder blades would hurt after riding. Apes fixed that. I also went with a +2 windshield which made a big difference with wind... although it's off mostly around town.
