Default New tire = new tube?

Always did all my own work except tire changes. Well two scoots is pricey to keep up with and later I want to install the IDS on the wife's 07 so I am going to do my own tire change on the 08 RKC. Also due to check rear bearings, brake pads, yada, yada (TMI....I know)

Question is.......would you, do you "automatically" change inner tube also? My stem comes out of the spoke wheel at a 45 degree angle and all I see on the Jake Wilson site is straight up or 90 degree stem tubes soooo if new tube is the way to go what tube?

I always replaced the tube and rubber band. The 90 deg will probably be easier to check pressure and add air but I'd prefer the straight stem.

Everyone I've chatted with says manufacturers recommend replacing the tube due to the stress and heat put upon them during their relatively short life. I figure if I'm going to run tubes I might as well do it right the first time.

The tube would probably be fine but I don't like weak links so I replace the tube and the "rubber band".

Too much at stake!

On my Duece I replaced 3 front tires before replacing the tube. Between the 3rd and 4th tire I had a tube failure at 80mph on I-15 on my way to Vegas. I was going straight at the time so it wasn't really that bad. The worst part was slowing down. The bike was suprisingly stable at speed but got pretty wobbly slowing down. As best I can remember (this was like 5 years ago) from 40 mph down was the worst part. If it would have happened in a curve the consequences surely would have been worse.

Since that experience, I now replace the tube with every other tire change.

Modern tyres seem to be more puncture resistant than of old (touch wood!), but when I was riding tubed tyres year round I always replaced the tubes and carried the old ones as spares.

Tube replacement it is! Was originally the plan, just having a hard time finding it at the on-line vendor I was looking at. I need to check Dennis Kirk or buy at the dealer.

Thanks

I replace the tube every time. Last time I changed my rear I checked the rubber band and it looked fine so I let that slide. I got my tire/tube from Jakewilson.com. They might have the tube you need. Funny that some online places have one thing and not the other. It's hard to do one-stop shopping sometimes.

You're going through the trouble of removing the tire, replace the tube. Rubber deteriorates over time.
