I think it's a great idea...We have one on the wifes Volvo and we do not use it to back-up, but we do use it when you get close to something so you know how far you can back-up. I know I can't see my tail pipes and saddle bags and would like to know when I am close to a curb when I park. Good idea sublime....it will become standard on the 2013 CVO's you just watch.

 

There are lots of optional rear view camera setups. I would be extremely careful using it while riding.

 

I hope you will post a follow-up with your impressions after you get it installed. I was thinking about doing something similar myself. Is the display weatherproof? I probably should read your oiginal post closer. What unit are you installing?

 

The JVC KD-AVX77 is a single DIN DVD with touchscreen display across it's entire face. It is not the typical flip out type of head unit. I got the idea to use this piece from forum member GTSDESIGNS.. Here is picture of it installed in his bike, I will take some of mine this weekend when I screw around with the camera...



It is not waterproof, but many people run aftermarket stereos in their bikes with no problem. You just need to be careful when washing or riding in the rain. No big deal.

 

Wire it up with it working with the brake lights. At least ya'd have vision of any cars coming up your *** when stopping/stopped.
