Default No power past sixty

Ok, got my 02 Electra glide home in February, finally got it out on the road this past weekend. I noticed that it backfires sometimes. Also, the last time I had it out, around sixty, I put it into fifth gear, it backfired a bit, then it was like it was really slow getting up to seventy and pretty much wouldn't budge past seventy. If I tried going up past seventy the RPMs went high and it just didn't seem to want to go. Yesterday I took it out and got it up to eighty, but from 60-70 it isn't very responsive, no get up and go. Also, seems to bog down a bit at times.

I was thinking about changing out the spark plugs and throwing some sea foam in there, see if it's just some winter storage issues. Any other ideas?

Was it backfiring out the air cleaner or exhaust? Check the mufflers inside with a flashlight and make sure they are not clogged with a mouse nest or some such. If it is backfiring out the air cleaner then it sounds like a lean condition. However, if the RPM's are going high, while the bike is not going any faster then I would think your clutch is slipping. If it is not slipping then it would have to be on the fuel side. Maybe a clogged filter in the tank, or if you are running a carburetor then it may be gunked up inside and need a rebuild.

Thanks. I'll take a look in the pipes. It does seem to be backfiring out of the pipes.

Oh! You're talking about your bike.
I was gonna tell you to get some Viagra.

Sounds like a fuel flow problem. When was the last time you did your fuel filter?
Also Bad Gas?

Backyard mechanics here have saved me HUNDREDS of $$$$$'s. If you can afford to take your bike to the dealer every time something needs done, good for you. I own a few bikes and the guys on this sight know alot more than alot of the Harley mechanics, plus their advice here is FREE !!!
The temptation to call you a name is forcing me to leave the computer now. Next !

Thanks. I talked to the previous owner and he gave me some ideas. I'm going to go with the bad gas theory and run some seafoam through there and also might think about getting the filter changed.
