Default Burnt Oil Smell

I just recently bought a 08 Ultra with 965 miles and when I'm riding 50/60 mph and decelerate I smell something like a hot oil smell. I thought I was getting a leak on a hot pipe but when I park it I can't find a leak nor smell the odor. I can only smell it during decel. Anyone have any maybe's. Other than that, it's beautiful....

Not sure about your problem, but I would check for oil around the throttle body and air cleaner, and on the rear cylinder fins.

My 07 would do the same thing when it was new. It stopped doing that after the first year or 9000 miles.

check the transmission case cover. I had one that leaked only enough to burn on the exhaust bracket directly under the cover. Never dropped any on the ground

That's some "LOW" milage. It's still new & maybe it's still got that new bike smell. I had a bike sit for 1yr & had gaskets crack & leak.

You're smelling the exhaust flowback........if it's not leaking, don't worry about it. I get the same thing on my 07 FLHTPI

Exhaust flowback, very nice. I would have said intake reflux but that would just be silly.

An 08 with less than 1k, sounds great, if you still have a problem after 5k I might worry, other than that, good info in previous post.

I have the same type smell on my 2010 EGC with about 6k on it now. It started at about 2-3K. Not leaking or using oil but when I stop and engine is hot it just smells like burnt oil.

Sometimes a drop or two of oil will fall from the air cleaner and land directly on the hot exhaust pipe but behind the shield. You can't see it. But you can smell it. Not a problem though.
