Default Need help, my 2006 sg tail lights don't work.

Hope someone can help. I'm a long time listener 1st time caller. Sorry no pics yet but I will get there.

I have a 2006 SG, my tail and brake lights don't work. The blinkers work, and the trim light at the bottom of the fender works. I checked all the fuses, even moved them around just to be sure. the dash and front lights work. When I press the brakes the relay makes a clicking noise, I imagine thats normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

Hate to state the obvious, but did you check the bulb?

Thats alright, though I have checked the bulbs, played with the wires. It's weird, the blinkers work, but only as blinkers not as running lights, and the brake not at all.

Fuse is good. Do you mean the wiring right at the light under the fender? I have not poked around there yet.

I had an issue with the tail light on my old '06 Road Glide.
The fix was to remove the socket and sqeeze the end with pliers so it would make better contact with the flat recepticle on the bulb.

I'll give it a try. Not sure if that explains the directional running lights not working, unless theres some sort of link between the two.

The OEM wiring of the rear turn signals is that they function only as turn signals; they don't operate as running lights. HD and others offer a module to have the rear turn signals operate as running lights and brake lights. Unless your bike has such a module, your rear turn signals are operating normally.

The tail light should operate as a run and brake light; but, I can't offer a fix other than use a test light to check the circuit at the bulb holder, and inspect for corrosion.

Hope you find a solution.

the rear brake light switch is to the left of your tranny cover it has to wire coming out of it. when i say check your fuse i mean the accessory fuse that controls your brake lights and turn signals.

Thanks all, just got home and I'm going to mess around with it. My front signal lights work as running lights. Does that have anything to do with the tail lights. Have only had the bike a couple months and can't recall if the back ones lit up or not.
