Thumbs down 2001 FLHTC Handlebar Bushings Question

I am in the process of installing Cycle Smith's 13" apes on my bagger. I was going to change out the bushings with a set of polyurathene ones. I bought a set made by Arlen Ness that covers my year but, they are way to big in diameter. I know that they need to be tight but, there is no way that these are going to fit short of putting them into a lathe and turning them down. What brand did or does everyone else use?

I installed OEM bushings, but replaced the original two piece clamp with the one piece. I believe it has an '07 part number. It should be used for all ape installations.

I will talk to my engineers, and see if maybe they can turn them for you. Or perhaps we can cut them on our laser, but that would be a worst case scenario. Hopefully you can purchase some cheap ones and be done with it.

The one piece top clamp actually has an 08 pn# and you should use it. Just grab the HD polyurethane bushings.

I used the 08 clamp and the HD urethane bushings on my Street Glide. With the OEM bushings, there is very little clearance between the clamp bolts and the bottom of the radio. When I installed the urethane bushings they added about 1/8" height to the risers/clamp which caused contact between the riser clamp bolts and the radio housing. I milled the 1/8" off the bottom of the risers, and it all fits and works great, been running them about 2 years. Doesn't realy reduce vibration but it gives the bars a firm connection to the trees, and eliminates that mushy feeling.

They now have the upgraded bolts with flat heads for the clamp so it doesn't contact the radio and cause CD skip too.

Thanks all. I will take the Arlen Ness bushings back and get HD bushings. I already have the 08 clamp. The bolts are not going to make any difference in clearance with the radio as I have Sony installed and it is a lot smaller that the OEM radio.

Will the HD polyurathene bushings work without cutting the risers down?
