Who's running Regular
Been experimenting with Regular gas (87 octane) first in my '09 FXDC when it was stock. Then after it was built to 103" Stage lll. The FXDC now has 26K total miles, 10K miles as a 103". So for over 25K miles it's been regular gas for me.
Last month I added a '10 Road King 103" Stage ll to my stable. Been running regular gas in the RK for over 2K miles now with no issues.

Been running premium since I can remember...but with gas flirting with $4 a gallon here in MS, I might give regular a try.
I have had to use regular here and there when it was all that was available. Never had any pinging issues.
Sure wish I could still get ethanol free easily. The closest place to me that still has it is over 100 miles away.

higher compression over stock will require better gas.. stock you can run regular .. build the motor and do things you'll need better gas.. but myself its a small tank so i run the best.. i feel good when i fill it up with premium compare to filling my car or truck.. so why skimp on 10-20 cents a gallon .. but if it runs fine for you then run it
Premium only unless it is not available.
If there was a .40cent price change and was completely empty the difference would be $2.40 for a fill.
When I can't afford that the bike will stay in the garage.
Don't get me wrong, it pizzes me off to no end that I have to pay upwards of 20bucks to fill it up.
Truth be known I really don't look at the total when I finish the fill.....

Around here the difference between regular and premium is 25 cents......
on a 5 gallon fill-up, that equals to $1.25.
I'll stick with premium ......

Harley gets premium only and I still get a quick ping when I accelerate hard or when running temps near 300. Needs a dyno tune, I know. All my other rides get regular, even the cage which recommends premium.

HIgh test actually runs cooler, reverse of what most think. If you are getting a ping or spark knock, this is not good, its called detonation and will destroy your motor. On stock 9:1 comp you should be fine, any compression ratio over 10.5:1, going to need high test.
