Default question for - 103 and oil cooler owners

Just want to know if any of the 103 owners that have oil coolers installed are having the starting problems when their bikes are hot. Seems that some 103 owners have problems starting their bikes when hot, and current attention is either higher torque starters or compression release. So to better understand what is happening....it would be helpful to measure if this is a problem with 103 owners that have oil coolers installed. a bike with an oil cooler does not get as hot as a non oil cooler bike. I noticed easier starts when hot on my bike. Thanks for your comments.

103 w/10.5 pistons and a cam with a 42 intake close, jagg 10 row with no t-stat. SE auto comp releases so no starting problems. ACR's are a no brainer when it comes to solving high cranking pressures on your starter if that's your problem.

I have a 103 with an oil cooler but I can tell you that this oil cooler will have no effect on how the bike will start ..Hot or Cold..

Even after going with Hi Torq starter, CR and SE Compensator I occasionally get a hard hot start. If you hit the starter immediatly after you switch on run it works every time. Don't wait for the fuel pump light to go off. I think the biggest help was the SE Compensator.
Good Luck

I think you nailed it. the sooner you hit the start button, the less voltage drop you have, and more cranking amps are available to the starter. the longer you wait to hit the start button, the more drain on the battery and more voltage drop resulting in less cranking amps. Even a small voltage drop reflects a significant % drop in battery charge state. see the attached chart. 12.7 volts means a 100% charge state. and for example, 12.4 volts means 75% charge state. a third of a volt drop results in 25% reduction in battery charge state.

speakerfritz Do you happen to have a power commander on your ride? I have power commanders on 3 bikes at the moment, and if you wait for the lights to go off for the fuel pump it will take longer to start..If I dont wait all 3 bikes start right up..

I'm with the Captain, 103, oil cooler and learnt to hit the button before the light goes out but that's to do with the PCIII not the other bits.

No problems so far, but mine has compression release standard and outside temperatures have not been above 60 here yet.
