Handlebars batwings
I don't like my stock bars. I am looking to get my hands up a little but also need to bring the bars back toward me so that I am not reaching for them. I have short arms and have my bars pushed forward to get them a little more level and not down around my knees but I can't use my backrest and reach the bars at the same time.
I have been looking at some of the bars and I am looking for something that is more straight across so that my hands won't be turned inward or downward when I pull then back slightly so that I can still use my backrest and not have my arms stretched out. I would like my hands just slightly below the top of the fairing or level with the top of the fairing for protection during them early spring rides or late fall rides when the temps drop down to the high 20s at night on the way home.
From chest to palm my arms are 22 inches when stretched out straight.
I am a stumpy 5'9" with a 30 inch inseam. I got rid of my reach seat in favor of the much more comfortable sundowner. The sundowner pushed me back some so I tried pulling the bars back but then they were back down around my waist again and I hate that. I would like my hands just below my shoulders when riding. It is better for circulation on long rides.
We don't have many guys in this area with aftermarket bars that will let you sit on their bikes. Well I don't want to ask them if I can because I don't know them and I know that I am not fond of others sitting on my bike either.
We don't have any shops around here that stock bars so that I can try them.
I am also trying to stay away from having to buy extensions etc if possible. I don't care if they can be wired internally but it would be nice.

The Klock Werks Ergo back bar is a possibility. The grip area is pretty straight, almost like a dirtbike bar though. Wild1 makes a 10" bar and the grip area is about in the middle of stock and the Ergo bars. BRscustombars can fabricate just about any design you want, but you'll wait 6 weeks and they are a bit spendy. Hope that helps a little.
I stopped reaching for my bars as soon as I put the 13" apes on. Did not need to extend wires either, but did need longer brake and clutch. I let people sit on mine when they come talk to me about the bars. A lot of them have a different take on apes after sitting on mine
You asked for some specific requirements that some replies missed here.
Apes are out since they require new cables and most bring your hands up over the fairing.
The ergo up or back will suit your need and do not require new wires OR CABLES.

I am not sure why more companies don't include overlays like this to compare to stock bars.
This makes it eaiser to visualize the difference from stock.
The ergo backs look like the ticket for you. You will need to replace mirrors if you are talking about a FLHX.

I had the Kromewerks +2 wide sweepers on my 06 FLHT #300505.
I now have the same bars for Throttle by wire #300515.
These are pretty much what you describe , although they are very wide , I think 3" wider than stock.
Both bikes only needed for me to re-route the clutch cable or better yet go with a +3 HD black cable (pretty cheap).
Wrist position is perfect pullback is good , very good value.
If you have pretty wide shoulders , they would probably work for you with your shorter arms.
I have long arms , 32" inseam , I'm 5'8" with a short torso , so I sit way back in the seat at 151 lbs.
I didn't bother with internal wiring as I don't care that much with the batwing covering so much area.
I let people sit on mine all the time to show them what's available , but I know people that won't or don't , that's a bummer. Good luck on your quest.

Wild one 575's will be about 2" taller than stock, and come back toward the seat 2", they still have my hands behind the fairing and make it so that I can lean back a bit and be more comfy, I ran my wires internally and they were plenty long enough, I did buy a 4" longer clutch cable so that it could be ran in the stock configuration.
