HD garage door opener

Have had the Harley opener for years! Always works never had to reset it and it has worked on 5 different bikes.
does your normal door button require anything more than just a single push to open or close the door? There is nothing complicated about the actual function of the receiver.
It momentarily closes a contact, just like when you push the button.
Try this disconnect the Harley opener and simply short the two connections that go to the wall button together momentarily. Does the door open or close? Do it again the door should go in the opposite direction as it did in the previous operation.
Try this and report back.

I had the EXACT problem you had. I have 2 garage doors. Each opens with a Sears opener. When I first installed, it would only work 1 time. I would remove and reinstall the wires and it again would only work once. Replaced the HD remote only to have the same problem.
I moved the transmitter to the second door and it works perfectly. I can't tell you why it didn't work on the one. I can tell you it's not the HD remote. Must be something with the Sears opener.

Just bought the HD garage door opener and installed pretty easy. Follow all instructions as far as setting the transmitter and receiver (numerous times) and on the initial try my door opens one direction only and doesn't work anymore. I can completely reset everything (reinstall wire to receiver, reprogram transmitter ect) and it works only one way once again. I've taken the receiver (part that plugs into the wall) back to the HD shop and gotten a diff one thinking i got a bad one, but it acts exactly the same. My garage door opener is 2 yrs old Sears. HD shop has no ideas so I'm looking for some ideas on what the problem could be!!!!

VZTS4Q, I will try this again tonight, but I'm pretty sure I already have. Like Bobros has said, I'm pretty sure it's my overpriced Sears opener that's the problem. Are both your garage doors the same model bobros? I was contiplating calling a garage door specialist and see what his thoughts are. I appreciate everyones input. It's nice to see I'm not the only one with this problem. Great help guys!

Yeah, I have the belt drive one too. Sounds like we are narrowing it down a little closer. I've talked to my local garage door guy here and he gave me the # to call Chamerland (who apparently makes the Sears openers) so i'm going to call them when I get home this afternoon (not sure of the model # right now). Mine is right at 1 yr old too.

Freddy try this, have it on the low beam, flip to high pause for 2 seconds flip it to low pause for 2 seconds flip to high again it should go up, wait till it goes all the way up and stops, wait for 15 to 20 seconds and then repeat it should work. If you do it to quickly it doesnt have time to reset!!

OK, gentlemen solved the problem. After everyones input and numerous calls with no resolution (i'm not one to give up easy) one thing keep coming up in common and that was the Sears belt drive garage door. This is one of the more expensive opener they have and it's got all the bells and whistles on the wall mount control (i.e. temp, time, motion, light, lockout etc) and after talking to the tech for Chamberlan (makes the Sears openers) and just about to hang up in severe frustration i pointed out one thing that i did notice when i would activate my lights...my wall controls would dim...the service tech said maybe its a voltage issue..so i completely disconnected the wall control and WALA, it works. So between the HD receiver and the high end wall control (which only comes on the belt drive model) there seemed to be a voltage issue. So i went back to Sears and bought a plain wall control and installed it and it didn't work! So since the new wall control came with new wiring, (my house is 25 yrs old and the original wiring for the wall controls was run inside the walls), i replaced it with all new and again WALA, it worked again. So, instead of stopping there, i thought, maybe it's been a wiring issues all along, so I wired up the original wall control and it didn't work again. So, to make a long story short it looks like it was a combination of old wiring and the fancy wall control pulling too many volts. So, thanks to all for their input and i hope this thread helps someone else in the future.
